Everyone wants whiter teeth be it for a special event such as a wedding, graduation, holiday or just to improve your general appearance and to feel more confident in social situations. Tooth whitening is a simple, safe and effective way of improving your smile.

Unfortunately teeth discolour  with age as the outer enamel becomes more see through and the the yellower inner dentine layer shows through. Also certain drinks and foodstuffs such as tea, coffee and red wine stain teeth as the years go on .Smoking is also still a significant cause of staining.Tooth whitening can slow down and even reverse this process.

So how do we do it?Well firstly we have to examine your teeth as normal to ascertain if they are healthy.Obviously any decay has to be eliminated by filling teeth if necessary.Filled teeth can still be whitened but sometimes fillings have to be changed to match the   new colour of the natural enamel.Once teeth are judged to be healthy then we can commence the tooth whitening  process.Firstly impressions/moulds are taken of upper and  lower teeth and trays are fabricated in the dental lab to fit the teeth. Then you are provided with the tooth whitening gels which are placed in the trays and worn at home for a few hours at a time.Usually improvements are noticed after a few days and you simply continue until you are happy with the result.

Tooth whitening can be ‘topped up’ occasionally if ,or example a special event is coming up.The trays fit indefinitely and the gel has a shelf life of a year or two if kept refrigerated.Further gels can be purchased separately if need be.

Are there any side effects to tooth whitening? Normally none but some patients do report some sensitivity to temperature during the process.Normally this can be alleviated with the use of sensitive toothpastes.

Tooth whitening is a much more conservative way of improving your smile without resorting to preparing teeth whichever is necessary when providing crowns or veneers .

Tooth  whitening costs only £250.00
