Partial and complete dentures fitted by Stirling’s local dentists
Dentures are removable false teeth made of either acrylic (plastic) or metal, custom-made to fit snugly in your mouth. They fit securely over the gum using a clasp or plate and offer a comfortable, lifelike and functional replacement for lost teeth. Dentures help patients avoid potential infections that can be caused by a gap as well as enjoying a normal, healthy diet without discomfort.
What are the different options?
- Simple acrylic dentures: these are the simplest and cheapest option. Functional, durable and easy to get used to, they are a no-frills solution to replacing a missing tooth.
- Metal based dentures: these dentures use a metal framework to adhere securely and comfortably to the gum. With their specialised design, they make eating and speaking easier and are usually used in partial dentures.
- Flexible dentures: these are made of very strong, flexible material and are guaranteed for life against fracture. They are used in cases where extra strength is required, and are particularly useful for patients who have had previous difficulty tolerating dentures.
Complete dentures or partial dentures: which is right for me?
There are two main types of dentures: partial dentures and complete dentures. Partial dentures are used when one or more healthy teeth still remain in the mouth, and consist of a gum-coloured plastic base with the replacement teeth attached to it. This option comfortably fills the gaps left by the missing teeth and stops the remaining teeth from shifting position and becoming crooked. Complete dentures are used when there are no teeth remaining, and are custom-made to fit perfectly within your mouth. Both options are highly effective ways to restore normality to your life, allowing you to eat, smile and speak with ease and comfort.
